Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” Selah Then I said, “I will appeal to this, to the years of the right hand of the Most High.”

Psalms 77:9‭-‬10 ESV

In present day predicaments it’s easy to forget past providences. We can be tempted to think that God has forgotten to be gracious. We might think that in anger He has shut up compassion.

When we do feel like God has abandoned us, we need to remember that He’s never let us down in the past, to give us confidence that He will not let us down at present or in the future. Even if it feels like God isn’t gracious or compassionate, His character isn’t defined by our feelings. He remains faithful in the midst of whatever storms we’re going through.

Remember all God has done, not just in our lives but in the lives of His people down through history. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So the One who had to be woken up to calm the storm for the disciples can calm whatever storms are going on in our lives.

The One who defeated death on the third day will defeat death in our lives if we trust in Him. Nothing can separate us from His love, not the virus, not even death. If God is for us, nothing can stand against us.

“Lord our God, in the midst of our distress at this global plague, we plead with You to stay Your hand of judgement and to extend Your hands in mercy over this world. Please cause many to turn to You for eternal life in these days, to the glory of Your name, amen”
