The voice of your watchmen—they lift up their voice; together they sing for joy; for eye to eye they see the return of the Lord to Zion.
Isaiah 52:8 ESV

My posts are titled ‘Watching Daily at Wisdom’s Gates’, a reference to Proverbs 8:34. But if that is the case, what should we as spiritual lookout be looking for? This verse explains one of the main things.

We are to be watching for the return of King Jesus. Just as He was promised to arrive the first time round, so He is guaranteed to return. First time was as Saviour; second time is as judge.

So why should the impending day of judgement inspires songs of joy from us as we watch and wait for our Lord? Because if we trust in Him, He already is our Saviour. He won’t judge us as we deserve but according to His own righteousness as our perfect substitute.

This calls for those of us who look out for His return to lift our voices and proclaim Him to the world. Yes, He’s coming to judge the world, but He’s already been here to save all who will trust in Him. So we long for His return to usher in a glorious and joyful new creation.

“God our Lord, may we expectantly await Your return, and may You come soon. In the meantime, please draw many into Your Kingdom, even through our witness, for Your glory we pray, amen”
